Valve on ebay

Now i think i have seen a pic.. or drawing of that style you have.. perhaps in a loader brochure.

I take it these bolt to the dipstick cover and tap the test port underneath?

The pics don't show.. but does it use a hollow bolt / banjo style setup on the test port?

thanks

It mounts on the right side inspection cover just below the 3pt touch control lever. When you raise the touch control lever the spring loaded plunger raises allowing flow from the test port to go to a remote cylinder. If you look closely at the pics on eBay you can see the test port fitting on the end of the supply hose. When you lower the touch control lever the plunger is depressed shutting off the test port supply and a return circuit is opened allowing flow from the remote cylinder to return to the sump via the itty-bitty tube that protrudes throw the top center inspection cover bolt hole. My protoype clone is pictured below. I "improved" the design by routing return flow back into the sump through the transmission fill cap with the sump adapter I make. I just got an order for one of the sump adapters from an equipment repair shop over on the MD eastern shore. They are using it to install a PTO pump on a MF 174 - says the transmission fill cap is the same as the N's - go figure!

Yep, I see it now.

By the way.. you do such nice work.. makes, I'm sure, many of us here envious...

I'll bet the flow you get thru that exhaust hose is way faster than thru a hollow bolt..

Will the lift arms still have to be tied down to use this set up? If so what is the point? The loader could still be operated with just the touch control if the lift arms have to be restricted.

Looks like the main difference is the external spool is now providing an exhaust point seperate from the N pump exhaust valve ??

Yes the lift arms have to be tied down and you can certainly operate a loader as you describe. That's why I never made a follow-on to my prototype clone. The valve does have a third port that is a direct return to the sump unaffected by the operation of the plunger but my sump adapter works much better.

In my case, for the short time I had the loader with it's original valve on my 9N I simply used the ports on the valve as supply/return connections to a two spool open center Cross valve mounted on the right loader lift arm support and used it to operate the loader.

Yep but that don't buy you any real functionality. The original valve that came with my loader had a T fitting installed in the Power In port. I have no idea what the previous owner had plumbed up. Looked like he/she was trying to split the flow into two power circuits.

My dad bought a Ferguson loader in about 1955 for our 2N. I am not at home tonight but it sure looks just like the one on my tractor. It had 2 cylinders with arms that went under the real axle that hooked to the 3 point. The 2 cylinders would lift the bucket up about 4 feet, then the 3 point lift would raise the bucket another say 4 feet. The arms hooked to the 3 point held it down until the cylinders were compressed, hence you did not have to chain down the 3 point arms. We only used the valve for this loader and nothing else. I don't know if Ferguson made the valve or bought it from someone else. They were a very light built loader.
