NAA ford wont turn over

MY Ford Naa wont turn over at all, I noticed that the ballast resistor is opened. It was converted to 12 volts by previous owner. Will the open ballast resistor prevent it form trying to start? This is my first post to the forum. Hello everyone!

Turn over as in starter doesn't spin the engine or it doesn't start?? If the engine spin but no start yes a open ballast resister will cause that since if open you don't have power to the coil

Thanks , My starter will not engage or turn at all. I connected jumper wire the battery 12 volts and starter turns slowly. The starter or engine does not turn at all. I have 12 volts on the solenoid but it does not transfer to the starter when I press the start button. Thanks in advance!

I was heading towards a bad ground but now I'm confused. "The starter turns slowly " and " the starter or engine does not turn at all".
You can't provide too much detail. Please tell me again what the symptoms are, what you've tried, and what if anything changed.

Start with cleaning up all the connections, especially to battery and thick cables and selenoid.

Does starter just click? Not clear what you meant.

When I push the push to start button, nothing happen, the engine does not turn. I took my volt meter and measured the top of the solenoid and got 12 volts. I connected the volt meter to the starter, I do not get 12 volts going to the starter from the solenoid. I took jumper cables and connected from the hot post of the battery directly to the starter, and the starter and engine turns and try to start. It appears that the push to start button has no effect.

You may have a bad.weak battery. If you have a VOM the battery needs to have no less then 12.6 volts. But even then that doesn't load test the battery. Poor connection at the battery and at the starter and ground can cause that but also bad battery cables which you cannot see can cause that

If cleaning the connections does not do it then It would be good to see a photo of your starter solenoid and the “start button” Does it have a stock 3/4” or so round button you push on the transmission (Stock switch) or just a small button in the dash? When these tractors are converted to 12 volts the system can be configured in multiple ways.

when I first try to start the tractor, nothing happened, no sound , no click, no turning. when i take my jumper cables and connect it directly from the hot post of the battery to the starter, the starter tries to start the tractor but only turn slowly. I have not changed anything. It appears that the 12 volts is not being sent from the solenoid to the starter. I am wondering ,what should the push to start button send to the solenoid.

It has the round push button on the transmission.

On those Fords the starter solenoid is activated by GROUNDING the wire . The factory switch grounds the solenoid to start. How is the battery?

I would take a battery and than take jumper cables connect to battery than connect other ground to tractor and then other positive to positive connection on starter....if it rolls over then it's not the starter

Be careful running battery direct to starter, be ABSOLUTELY sure tractor is in neutral. That is why these old tractors had the starter button/switch mechanically connected to the shifter.

You can do the test, with a known good battery from your car/truck too. Just jumper, using real jumper cables,the starter post and a good solid ground. On a 70 year old tractor you may have to sand off the rust to get a good ground. Starter itself can have a bad ground to the block, try the starter housing as ground.
