NAA generator

Our hunting club Ford NAA wasn't charging. Thinking that it was the generator I tested it by attaching a 6 volt lantern battery to the field and ground terminals(+ to ground), and a voltmeter to the armature and ground terminals. When I wrapped a string around the pulley and yanked on it, like a starting rope lo and behold it read in excess of 7 volts on the meter. So I got a new voltage regulator, polarized the genny and it now works fine. I thought this simple genny test might be of interest.
