NAA voltage regulator - HELP

Hello, I am working on a NAA and have just rewired the whole tractor. My question is what is the proper way to set the regulator? Also, how can i check to see its working? When it starts up the amp gauge is on "0". If I press the top solenoid in the amp gauge goes "positive" but returns to "0" when released. The bottom set of contacts appears to be arcing a little bit too. Any help here would be super. You can make it simple or very technical - i can understand it - THANKS

Not quite sure what you asking,..anyway,..is your NAA a 6 Volt or 12 Volt conversion ? If it is a 6 Volt, you need to polarize the genny by touching the Fld. wire on the V.Reg. to the Batt. wire on the V.Reg momentarily. Then re-connect the wire back to the Fld.terminal on the V.Reg.
Make sure all connections are clean and tight. Make sure your amp meter is wired correctly also.The wire from the starter relay should be attacted to one side of the amp meter and another wire from the remaing post of the amp meter should go to the electrical block where it meets the Batt. wire leading to the V.Reg.(Remember this is for a 6 Volt Positive ground system.)
Try starting the tractor and check your amp meter for a reading. Turn on the lights and see if the amp meter goes to the +. If so all should be good. If not,.. something is wired wrong or there could be V.Reg or Genny problems.

After reading your question over again,..it appears you are trying to adjust the regulator itself. Was it not charging before you re-wired the tractor? Why adjust it if it was indeed o.k. before? If it was o.k. before,.. the genny just needs to be polarized. Otherwise you may just have a bad v.reg. I bought a brand new v.reg. when I re-wired my NAA,and it turned out to be bad and I had to turn it in for another one. So you can get bad v.reg"s. that are new. (Cheaply made).

it is 6 volt system - the tractor was sitting for 18 years and it was just rebuilt. I will try to polarize the genny and see what happens
