Narrow Front Ford

may have ask this question before, but hey I am old so give me some slack.

is this a true Ford product or did someone make it, if so they did a good job.
I have seen a picture of front cultivators for this model tractor, would have fit great with this tractor.

why did Ford not make this model tractor, most all other large tractor manufactures were making narrow front tractor for cultivation,
back in the day most all row crops had to be cultivated, so having a tractor that you could attach front cultivators offered the driver better visibility of the crop and ability to cultivate taller crops.

Looks like Ford Tractor made it, that is at least they made most of the parts. Looks like it could be the elusive Johnny Cash model to me!

No one tractor had it all.
The little Farmalls and others were made for cultivating but had limited uses otherwise as they were just a drawbar tractor. The little Fords were plowing fools and could do all sorts of tricks with the 3 point. They were easier to mount and dismount too. But they kinda sucked for cultivating. Ford coulda, woulda, shoulda? made an N like that but I'll bet it wouldn't have sold 20% of the units our beloved Ns did. Look at the later RCs - 700, 900, etc. I'll bet there were only about 20% of those made compared to their utility sisters 600, 800, etc.

as I read the responses so far,
this tractor was made by an individual, not a true Ford tractor product.

if so they sure did a good job, I just saw the picture on Facebook and thought you guys might be interested.

but as my wife says when I ask her about something I saw on Facebook,

if its on Facebook there is a 90% + chance its fake.
most times she is right.

That looks like the front bolster off a Farmall B. Nice job fitting it.

It may be a one-of but it Is a nice job of it.
If I could have it I would take it.
But alas, I would sell it. And buy something like a Ford 3910, 4100 or 4600 SU. Those were the last and probably the greatest of of the Ford utilities with wishbone style front ends.

ope, I would say the bolster is off a Ford 960 or similar series. Definitely not factory but done largely with Ford parts. Definitely a neat machine

Yes, homemade. Spoke with the owner at the 2010 ford/fordson show. it's nicely done. Here are a couple of photos I took at that time.

That one is a custom job, made by fitting the bolster from a 900 to an 8N. I can see various little aspects to the casting that ID it. When the Ns were being built you could get a kit for them to make your own. They were called the "sugarcane/cotton special" which was a kit made by Philips Foundry, Bakersfield, CA. The kit is a single front wheel axle and mounting, plus rims for someting like 40 inch tires. There may be some other incidentals, but the wheels are the main part of the kit. That is what is rare. You can own your own as there is an auction coming up soon where one will sell. It is by Aumann and they will be selling the Chris and Roger Clark collection. The tractor is probably the one that Palmer Fossom owned, that sold some ten years ago.

Doesn't look like too much fabrication.

I'd want some weights hanging on front.i imagine it's pretty light.

You could hang a factory weight box on it if you can find one. They say that they go from $700 to $1200.

I knew I had seen a set of front cultivator for a wide front 8N or 2N
there is one in that set of pictures
also the single front wheel does not look as cool as the double set of wheel on the 8N but probably more useful.

I can't see on my phone.. but on the bolster mod. i see they added side rails to the N to grab bellhousing bolts, but assume (
can't see ) they also used front bolster mount points on the front of the N too.. right?

I almost bought a 2n sugarcane special one time. kick myself for not doing it..
