I kind of left you hanging on the pump issue. Checked my manual and I think the balls should pass freely in the ring. You have hydraulic pressure forcing them off the seat but only a very light spring pushing them back down. If they're tight in the ring they may stick there and not reseat.

Thanks for the update. Based on that info and the fact my new guides are longer than the originals, I think I am just going to reuse my original ones to be safe. I don't feel comfortable trying to size/shape the new ones correctly. I appreciate all the help. No way I would try something like this without support from those more knowledgeable like yourself.
