The 224T baler I just picked up has bent needles. New ones from John Deere are so high I figured I should look around a little. Does anybody make aftermarket needles? Is there a good source for used? Can't find any in my area of east texas. Thanks.

Those needles are tough and can be straightened/heated/welded/rebent.

I would worry more about what else was tore up or bent.

Oh, yeah, and check the plungerhead stop, and the needle brake and TIME the baler before going back to the field, only after checking over the drives and replacing any worn chains.

TXZane, these balers are kinda simple to TIME with a BOOK. I have a 224T myself and had to do some work over to it few yrs Ive had it. I bought a original JD224T book off Ebay.GET YOU ONE and READ/FOLLOW the TIMING procedure.

I lent my 224T out to a friend this summer. It came back with one broke needle and a bent needle frame. Some friend.

I agree on simple to time especially compared to a 214 with the short knotter drive chain. I also 2nd what Bob stated about checking plunger head stop operation to be sure it's operating correctly.

There is a place in Penn Yan NY that all they do is balers and they have lots of new and used parts. Can't find name or number right now but they have good prices. Check the needle frame as well for damage. Tom

Yep. I got a book for it and timed everything and gave it a once over. The needles are just the last thing I'm needing. Was putting it off because I know how expensive they are.
