need advice on 1650

Should I paint it and make it look new or leave it original? I just got this from a neighbor whose Father bought it new in 1967. It, believe it or not, has always been barn kept. I have been around this tractor all of it's life. These people didn't take good care of anything. This tractor just wouldn't give up. It still runs great. It has the Lanova engine in it. Everything on it works. It came with the 565 4-16 plow and 10ft. Oliver disc that it came with new. It has never been off of the owners farm. I bought the farm too, so it will still be there.

Might get some Clover White and paint the wheels and grille and see if the green will buff out and take a shine.
The green on my 1850's still original. It's still got the original dealer decals on it. Getting hard to find them that way.

This one still has the dealer decal, but you can't read it. I think I will put a wide front on it. It will ride better. I have enough tricycle tractors. I think about six with narrow fronts. They are handy sometimes.

I always liked the look of the narrow front on the 4 digit Olivers. Looks like the fender could be straightened out and I have a floor board if you need it. Are the fenders rusty where they bolt on? Are you starting it with one 12 volt battery? Lots of new parts available like battery box's and engine rebuild kits. I waited till mine spun a bearing and it gets real expensive fast! Have fun they are a good ole tractor! Greg

I'd like to have a 1550,1600 or 1650 narrow front. I've got a narrow front end here under a 1600 parts tractor,I just need a tractor to put it on.
There was a 1650 narrow front gas on an online auction yesterday. I put a few bids on it,but by the time the buyers premium was added in,it brought more than I wanted to give for it for the shape it was in.

mike, to me depends on where your heart is, i have just completed the restoration on my 1967 1650 narrow front, hi speed. it can get spendy. seat $285, paint, hardener, extender $450, had all the dents and dings taken out and sandblasted $500. many small incidentals. new throw out bearing, clutch. tore it all down painted it myself. looks better than new. have really no field use for it here, to me depends on what your going to do with it. mine will be cruise and parade. looking for a 1550

I would not paint a thing on your 1850. You just don't find them that nice. I was told and shown that oven cleaner will clean up the rust on the grille. Don't paint anything on it. The 1650 is pretty will gone. Use it as is or repaint it. It's not a nice enough original to be a kept that way.

I wouldn't paint it either. Just clean it up. If it's been painted before with a cheapo paint job, then yes. They are only original once. I'd try cleaners on it first, before I even give it a thought of a repaint.

If it was me I would try to clean her up and try some paint cleaner and see what it looks like, You might be surprised ! That's what I did to my 1550 and it turned out looking good. If the paint don't clean up then paint it simple as that but a little clove white sure makes a difference. Bandit

I cleaned up pop's Super H and then waxed it good. The way it turned out was pretty surprising. You don't have much to loose. gm

This tractor was overhauled about 600 hrs ago. It is a pretty good tractor. It's not a parade queen, I will use it. I farm with old tractors. From a 1951 Massey 44 to a 1976 4430. I like all brands. I am semi retired and farm about 150 acres of row crops and 50 acres of alfalfa hay. I like the old stuff, it matches me, old. I plan on using this Oliver for my disc mower. I round bale with a IH 766, square bale with a JD 4020 diesel, rake with a JD 2510.

I've got enough of the darned things around here, but I've always wanted a small frame four digit with a narrow front,or an 1800A with a narrow front. The one on the online sale had a decent paint job, four nearly new tires, but the seat was junk, had a cracked manifold, said runs and drives, but runs rough. It brought $2079 before the 10% buyers premium. Of course I'd have had to raise the bid by another $25. I'll find something cheaper somewhere.

I am not a farmer. This old girl is just going to mow grass from now on. Started painting it last spring and just ran out of time. The fenders will be a project in themselves, one is rusted through at the mounting posts. Your hood looks nice and straight. This one must have been parked under a walnut tree! It's also a '67. Sure would love to have that 565 plow and 10' disc.

Married to Allis, Looks great! This afternoon when I got home I googled new fenders for Oliver 1650 because mine are pretty rusty. No luck so far but they do have new hood and side panels. I'm pretty cheap so I will just repair mine! Greg
