Need advice on 3020 steering

I'm working on my early 3020 diesel. The steering wheels do not stay in time with the steering wheel. It's always when turning left you turn the steering wheel to full left extent and the wheels will intermittently be at about half. Hold the stewing wheel and they catch up. I rebuilt the steering motor over the winter and it acts the same before and after. Where do I go next? I'm thinking to Tim S for valve repair but want to be certain.

Yes it sounds like the steer valve needs re-sealed and calibrated. When your steering acts like yours does it has the possibility of being ether the motor or the valve,,or both,,most of them still have the original seals in them,, and who could guess on how many times the wheel was turned the past half century...

There is an easy check to determine if its the motor . On top of the oil cooler is a small return hose . Remove it and plug the oil cooler . Then have someone start the engine and turn the steering wheel back and forth . There will be a small amount of oil ( as in drops ) if its good , if its a stream the motor needs gone thru again . Most likely nicked an o-ring when it was reassembled . Good luck .
