Need Advice

I've been looking for a dedicated metal cutting chop saw and metal cutting circular saw for more accurate cuts and longer lasting blades.

I've used a regular wood circular saw with a metal blade for some cuts, but it runs too fast which makes for short blade life.

Been looking at an Evolution 14 chop saw. It's about 400 on Amazon.

Also looking a 9 Jancy Slugger by Fein circular saw. It's about 350 on Amazon.

What are your thoughts on these saws or do you recommend something else? I've got a portable 44 inch bandsaw which does ok, but it's hard to get accurate cuts, especially angled cuts.

There is a similar one at northern tool which I have used in business and hobby. No complaints. Blades aren't too bad price wise from northern and then have a local saw sharpener resharpen them.

Depending on your budget, quality of cut, and amount of use, if you can justify it, step up to a 'cold saw'.

Low RPM, extreme torque, they do a beautiful, accurate cut without burning through the metal.

None of the high speed saws are going to reliably give nice cuts. Plus they are nasty!

A chop saw would give you better mitre cuts than a circular saw. Just think of cutting wood mitres. Which do you think would give you the most acturate cuts?

I used to use a chop saw until I bought a metal cutting bandsaw. I would never go back to using a chop saw. The blades don't last long and makes too much sparks. I just bought the Harbor Freight cheap one and I'm very pleased.

To cut tube, angle iron, and such its hard to beat a metal cutting bandsaw. I have a cheap one like Stephen. For plate I draw a line and use a torch or plasma cutter then touch it up with a grinder if needed. A large drywall tsquare makes a good straight edge.

Had in evolution chop saw in welding shop where I taught. Had a bandsaw also. Once I got the evolution saw, we hardly used the bandsaw. Holy cow that thing would cut. Liked it so much I also bought the hand held skill saw style. Just remember to use the correct blade.

Evolution is a good brand,we have sold a lot of them. One of the salesman has the hand held one for his own shop use. He builds plate boats on the side and loves that saw. Evolution is a US company(Davenport IA) the saws are imports. Keep watching Amazon,I was looking for a mag drill,it took a few weeks but Amazon sent me an email with a killer deal on a drill. Of course by then I had changed my mind

The relay is turned on by 240 volts (use a meter to find it on the motor side of the switch. The relay switches the 120 AC to the pump. A second plug in to the 120 volts is needed for the pump. Jim

I have an Evolution chop saw and I live it. Cuts great and the blade seems to last. The only thing that might be a down side is the blade leaves a wide kerf, have to pay attention to which side of the cut you are on. Make sure you're wearing your safety glasses, it runs out tons of material while cutting. I was fairly impressed how accurate the mitre is on it, makes perfect corners everytime.

Look at a Doringer Chop saw Good clean cuts and 100% accurate, and the other one is a Milwaukee metal cutting skill type saw, and you'll never but another saw period !!! the Doringer is made in California but is not cheap, blades are 12 or 14 inch and will cut about 2000 cuts before they need sharpening ! jus my .02 cents ....Jim in N.M.

I have 2 Evolution saws, a metal chop saw, and a sliding mitre saw. Highly recommend the brand, still on my first blade on the 14 inch chopper.

Once you get one, youll wonder why it took you so long to pull the trigger. ( no pun intended)
