I have my case 311 B 58. My new dash should be in when I get back home. Now the old sending unit on tractor was just a small round pipe like that screwed in motor and on dash. But the new dash will have an electric reading unit. So I must replace the sending unit on motor to an 12 volt one.
So does any unit fit in the motor? Is it special one for a case tractor only? Are does anyone that fits the hole in engine work? Any thing I might need to know more on doing this? Thanks

Answers to this are:
1. You will need a sending unit with the same size pipe threads that are in your engine block. Hal
2. El Toro is correct, the sending unit should be designed for the new gauge. The voltage change curve will be important for accuracy. Adapters can be used to place it in the hole. A supply voltage will also be needed for the gauge. (and sometimes a instrument voltage regulator. JimN

What is a voltage change curve ? Where do I get one and how is it applied

Roger will install a Stewart Warner 12v resistance temperature guage. You will need a 12v resistance heat actuated sender. He can provide the sender or a p/n, ask him. Your block sender hole is 1/2" npt.

My new dash maybe in tomorrow. Just got back in today from down south. Glad to be back and sure looking forward to my dash. Once that is done then I am going to do some sanding as weather permits. Then get someone to make them retangle door latches for the case hood. Need one for center hood and one for over my batterie. *S Thanks again

As the temperature of the water changes while warming up, the resistance of the sending unit changes. To have the gauge read accurately enough to be worth looking at, the sending unit resistance curve (change/temp) must match the gauge needle deflection. Usually requires the same brand sending unit matched to the gauge. Stewart Warner model XXX gauge with SW modelXXX sending unit. JimN
