Need engine stand!!

Im starting to rebuild a D-301 IH engine and need an engine stand, will a 1250 capcity hold or do I need the 2000 lift? Any recomendations on a good place to get one and a good brand would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You will need the 2000# stand.....working and pulling on bolts ....you need it to be study.....

Check Harbor Fraight or your Auto parts store.....

The LAST thing you need is a wimpy engine stand that creaks and groans as you install the head, valvetrain, manifolds, etc. I did that with an 4.0L inline six engine and a 1250 engine stand - it sagged downward about 2 inches. YOU NEED beef for diesel engines. BEEFCAKE stands, no BS stands. Comprende?

The one Guido has is the same one we've got at our shop. It's has a 6000lb capacity so it should do whatever you want to do and then some. We got ours, along with several of the adapter plates off Ebay for $1000 plus about $150 in shipping. Considering that some of the adapter plates we got cost several hundred apiece we got a steal on all of it. That said for the cost of a cheap one you can keep an eye on ebay, craigs list, etc and find a GOOD used one for little more than you'd pay for a cheap piece of junk.

I got lucky several years ago when a Bus repair place went out of business in Lamar Co. I bought an engine stand that will hold two engines. One on each end.
It is made of square tubing and is heavy. We have had two big block chevy's on it and the worst thing is that it is hard to move, even with wheels.
I don't know how big a diesel I would put on it but I would not hesitate on the smaller diesels
We have two othe engine stands but the Buick 3.8 made one of them tired.

If you are thinking of making one and if you are in an area where center pivot irrigation is used, you can make one from a gear box off an irrigation tower. Just by luck, the neighbors I work with have the only irrigation setup in the county, and they had several gear boxes laying around. So I got one and made a stand that kind of looks like an OTC stand. I had a 631 Deere engine hanging on it and the stand took it, but I was a little worried . Jim
