Need Facts -Ferguson-Brown

I need facts pertaining to the 1936 Ferguson-Brown Type A Tractor. I'd like to find someone who knows the history, or where I might find the history in detail. What I know is sketchy...thanks

Are you updating that article you put on the other site? I noticed that you said the Ferguson Brown tractors were all painted black which isn"t true. Only the first Ferguson prototype tractor was black. Also you said Harry Ferguson wasn"t a mechanic he was a salesman and business man. I disagree with that because he built and flew the first airplane in Ireland and he also worked in his brothers garage and built his own race car.
 
I am running a bus trip from Ireland to England this year to the Ferguson Heritage AGM We are visiting at least 5 Ferguson collections...one with over 150 tractors! We are also going into central London to see the sites AND to see the 'Black Tractor"

Hi Sam and thanks for your reply. I have got number 226 wich is packed away waiting restoration. I bought mine in 1968 when I worked for a David Brown dealer here in Newark. I was put on to this tractor by one of the DB reps who told me it was at a dealers garage in North Yorks. The owner of the tractor had emegrated leaving a repair bill on the tractor and if anybody would pay it they could have the tractor. So I rang the garage owner and asked what the bill was and he replied im afraid it is 45 pounds of wich ireplied thats fine and I will see you in the morning. MJ
 
There is a section by Harold Brock in a book called 'The big book of Ford Tractors' (or close to that) where Brock talks about the development of the 9N and he basically tries to discredit Ferguson as much as he can. I believe he made a similar statement about Ferguson only being a salesmen and did no engineering so I think this is where some get their information. Brock also said that Ferguson did not invent the three point hitch, that William Sands did. Now I would agree that Sands was a very large part of the development process and the three point may not have come about without all the work he did on it, but I'm not sure Sand's would have developed it on his own without Ferguson's relentless drive. I have read Ferguson's biography and it goes into a lot more detail and Brock's write up in the Ford book just feels like he is twisting the facts on numerous things.
 
MJ....I will give you a fiver profit on that deal!......We have an old bachelor near me who bought 14 of them from a scrap yard at the pricey sum of £15 each...he still has them all, but won't take profit!
