Need help identifying engine!!

Just bought this 511B with an engine I cannot identify. Not the famed Dry Sleeve 164. No signature tin cover on the manifold side. Oil Filter not above the starter, fuel pump access different. Does have the 2-bolt starter flange. Also, like the later engines, the dipstick access is also used as the fill. Number stamped in that boss above the starter is A37209. I cannot find a reference to that number anywhere. This tractor also has the Factory Installed optional Cat. 1 Hitch.

Hi John this is easy and complex because I do have two used empty block A37209 with the same casting number you are giving and if you check in your 570 manual this is where this block casting comes from page 43. Have a nice weekend jc marleau

J.C. Yes, you are correct, A37209 is in the 570 manual for the 159, but this is a 2 Bolt Flange, the 570 is a 3 bolt starter flange and I just pulled the starter back to make sure there was not a hidden bolt hole, there was not.

John the last 500 & 600 B Series Tractors Had 159 cid Motors /Part of the up Coming Change over for the up coming 30 Series Tractors. The last Change was 30 Series the blocks were Cast for the New 3 Bolt Starter's.

Hi John

Case made a wet sleave 164 ci replacement short block after they discontinued the dry leave variant (see the G-10510 part number at the bottom of this list). I wonder if that is what you have. Unfortunately they do not list the casting numbers on this Service Bulletin.

The one thing that is still puzzling is the dipstick/oil fill. That was a very late addition to the 159 block. It would be very interesting if they included that as early at 1961 on this unique 164 wet sleeve block...

If you ever get a head off, it would be interesting to know the bore of that engine.

If you would ever consider parting with that factory 3pt don't hesitate to reach out.... ;-) - Joe

, funny Jonathon and Richard and I were talking about that today ,I do have the same hitch also , except I only have the back hlf ,, no motor...

That engine would have been easier to identify if a close up of the head on the spark plug side would have been shown. A 159 with a 3 bolt starter bell is easy, a 511B with a 3 bolt flange , not so much. Not likely but that tractor could be easily built because of the commonality of parts as castings, gearboxes and covers will all interchange.

That being said it looks like your tractor is the real deal. We have seen this in other tractors for export with different fuel systems than those sold in the states.

Also, a check of the parts book for the 511 B shows the wet sleeve and piston kit, though long unavailable.
