Need help selecting a trash pump.

I need a submersible trash pump that can handle feathers from a full grown chicken. Needs to be 120v and the outlet needs to be 2 in or less. Anyone have any recommendations? I have Hydromatic brand pumps now that work good until the feathers plug up the inlet. I need one that will grind them up a little if possible. I am using them in a sump basin that is catching all the wash water from a barn cleaning, most of the feathers are removed before the water work starts but not all.

I have successfully used a homemade screen to filter all large feathers in the past but the company is bringing in a crew to do it and these guys can tear up an anvil. I have seen their work first hand and I know they are not going to be patient with my screening system, last time they were here they were shoveling solids into the sump pit with a grain scoop to avoid anymore work. I'm not happy they're coming back but there isn't currently any way around it.

Thanks
Nate

I used to be on a small town council. Our sewage lift station had two 2HP chopper/macerator pumps.

They have impellers that chop up solids, and NO screens ahead of them, except a "honey bucket" where occasional rocks and any metal debris was supposed to drop out of the sewage stream.

These pumps were 240 Volt 3-phase. We later replaced them with 4 HP units.

I don"t know what is available in single-phase, if that"s what you need. Check on-line or perhaps with a company that does sewage lift station work in your area.

Like Bob said, call around the local utility water departments and waste-water departments, they can tell yu the most reliable pumps and the best sources.

Hydromatic makes grinder pumps too. I have a 4" outlet 5 hp 3 ph which can push 1+" solids through.

Just go to your best, favourite pump/septic / irrigation supply house. Most all companies make them, just depends who you want to deal with.
