25 year old tires splitting along sidewalls. Good tread but weak. Suggestions for a tough tire, like log skidder tough? Presently Firestone 16.9 Super all traction FWD on 15" rim R1, tubeless, 10 ply rating. Not worried about costs, I just hit it big in the lottery (that's a joke)! Seriously, looking for companies known for best pricing. My tires could be used awhile if anyone be interested. On a New Holland now.

IS the split length ways or from bead to tread. IF from bead to tread they are being run to low on air and causing the sidewall to flex to muhc under heavy load causing the crack. IF radially around sounds like a defect in the tire. I've got an 18.4-30 to change out for that problem .I have the tire just have not gotten to it yet. I changed the other side a year ago for that reason. I put a new set of Titans on the 806 a couple years ago now seem good. I wanted radials but the money for the use just was not there.

25 years would be considered quite old for a modern radial tire so I wouldn't consider sidewall cracking at this age to be a sign of weakness - the tire is just dying of old age. Having good tread left after 25 years simply means that the tire isn't used for high draft applications or run in hard stubble. I know from experience that the Firestone FWD is a very good tire since that is what always goes on the front wheels of the main field tractor on our family's farm and we get very good service life from them.

I doubt you'll find skidder tires in the size you mention as they tend to be a lot wider. But, depending on the application, skidder tires may not make the best ag tires anyway since their high puncture resistance could make for a rough ride and poor traction in the field due to lack of flex.

As for budget-friendly brands that have a decent reputation the first names that come to my mind are Mitas and Alliance.

I guess I have to agree on the BKT tires. I bought a NH T6050 some over 2 years ago, it had new BKT radials all the way around when I bought it and have put about 800 hours on it since then. The last time I looked, you could still find the remains of the tire size where it was molded on the face of the cleats, corners of the cleats are still square, basically the tires still look new.

16.9-? What size rim
If your want logging type tuff stay away from radials, their sidewalks are to thin
Due to the materials in newer tires they are not going to last 25-30 years like old tires did
Although a cheap off brand the Galaxy brand tire has a very similar look and thread design of the no longer available Firestone Field and Road
The ones I looked at were 8 ply but I wasn’t looking for anything heavier plied

Put a set of Galaxy tires on the rear of one of our tractors I use to bush hog with spring a year ago. So far no issues or complaints.

Shipping is expensive. I bought a 36 in rear tire from Miller Tire in July and if I had paid for shipping they said it would be almost $200. With Miller I picked it up at the steam pageant in Canandaiqua and didn't have to pay shipping. Unfortunately have to wait another year for that deal.

Miller’s shipping is high, I was going to order 4 front tractor rims but when they said $250 shipping I canceled the order
Hey Wheel sold me the same size rims for $10 each less and only $100 shipping

A lot of the Ebay sellers offer free shipping to the lower 48, with a longer time frame. If you look at the shipping rates and speeds you will also find they offer faster shipping If you want to pay the rates.

Firestone and its sister brands are best. Michelin is also good.

I have really liked the more affordable Carlisle on my compact sized tractor.

Titan and Goodyear make a lot of ag tires, they might crack out sooner than Firestone but might cost less, it depends on the size, design, and dumb luck… bit cheaper than Firestone.

Lot of cheap unknown import brands that tend to have less rubber, less lugs/ less traction, and far less durability but sure cost less. Hard to list them all.

Like the Sampson I got for duals on my 150hp tractor. They are serviceable, but clearly won’t last as long and very clearly have much less traction with their few lugs. But, as a dual matched up to the half worn Firestone’s they work out as a serviceable economical solution.
