Need new torch outfit.

I'm in need of a new oxy acetylene outfit.
Priced Harris and Victors today at local supply company.
I was curious if anyone on here has ever purchased any of the "Victor" type outfits off ebay?
Being I would only use the torches maybe 4 or 5 times a year for heating or brazing something, I was just wondering how they are holding up?
About the best I could come up with today was around $550.00 and up with smaller tanks.
Any thoughts or comments would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Jeff

Man I've been seeing complete used outfits for sale on Craigs list in Pa . I don't know where you are but check CL every day plus place ads a couple times weekly .About 4 months ago , I bought medium sized accet tank full & an oxy tank empty . Plus guages , torch , new hose & a small 2 wheel cart for $150.00 .The torch & guages are old but workable until I come upon another ad for their replacements . You could also do a Google search for welding & torch supplies . Then start checking them out for product names , prices & quality . The more you search , the more you will learn .If that seeems like too much work for you , have your wifie do it for you . God bless, Ken

Why buy cheap tools?
Buy a Victor.
I've had mine since 1977 and they still work good.
Parts if I need them are available at most welding supply outfits.

Another vote for Victor. Got mine for a Christmas present in 1976. It was a used set dating to the early 50's. Still in use. Had to replace an O ring on the oxy valve on the torch once.
Try getting that kind of service from a cheap outfit.

Victor makes a low end and a high end. Lowes sells the low end and welding shops sell the high end. Both are good torches. Smith and Harris are both as good but your local shop may not alway's have what you need on the shelf if you buy a brand different from theirs.

Be careful. The "Victor" brand on ebay may not be a true Victor. It might be a cheap, Chinese knock-off that will be more trouble than it's worth. Could also be dangerous due to poor construction.

I like the new style Victor, it has a safety molding around the gauges and the back flow valves are built into the regulators. Go ahead and buy the set with a rosebud tip.
That tip is the best money I ever spent for heating iron,(takes less gas and a lot faster they doing it with the cutting head)
