Ok, I feel like a total dummy, but I'm drawing a blank on a part name. I dont have my camera to post a pic so Ill try my best to describe it. Its the piece underneath the throttle lever that bolts onto the instrument panel. With the ridges on it that your throttle lever rides on. The ridges are worn smooth on mine and Id like to replace it, and also the friction plates and bracket underneath the panel that the throttle goes through.

Sorry for having this brain fart...haha!

It would help a bit if we knew what tractor you were talking about.
DavidP, South Wales

So sorry...that just proves my point...my mind isnt where its supposed to be today  MF 65....

My 65 does not and never did have the ridged part you speak of
on top of the instrument panel.

I wonder if someone added the part to your tractor instead of
fixing worn friction discs, worn hole in friction washer, and worn
tabs on throttle lever where the friction washer is located ?

I guess thats possible, I know its been on there since my grandpa bought this tractor used over 30 years ago. The friction plates and all of that is worn completely out so I'm also trying to get everything gathered up to fix it.
The piece looks like its came original on the tractor because it fits perfectly, but I definitely havent seen any others with it. I'm pretty sure my dad's old 8n has one on it. So I just assumed mine was supposed to have it too. The teeth are almost worn smooth on it was the reason I was wanting to replace it.

On my oliver i call that item a throttle quadrant.

Has anybody found these friction discs and star washer for sale anyplace yet? I havent checked with my local dealership, but searching on the net has turned up nothing. Except for a website in Russia that supposedly had the star washer.

Im thinking about just making my own cork friction discs, not sure about the longevity they would have though. But that star washer has me puzzled.

Hi Will78
The part you need is Part number 189471M1
Looks like massey put some of these on a few 65s.
The friction disc is still available from Agco. Part number 826997M1
Wayne

Thanks for the help Wayne. I'm glad to hear I can get the friction discs, but so far I cant find part 189471M1 anywhere!

I think I've got worse problems right now anyway. Im trying to rebuild the steering column and gear housing as well. But it looks like my shaft is worn almost in half at the top where the first bearing shouldve been. Ive looked in my old repair manual but it doesnt show a clear pic of how the shaft should look below the steering wheel key. Does anybody have a pic of how it should be???

Maybe I can have a machine shop weld mine back up and turn it back down for me. But I need to know roughly how it should look.

That quadrant was usually only fitted to industrial tractors, the Ag
tractors did not have it nor need it so I wouldn't worry about it
being worn, just make some rubber friction washers and fit them to
the throttle rod.
Above is a picture of a 65 steering box torn down, maybe you can
see what you need. On the top of the column is a fibre
bush/bearing, which seems to hold water and rust the column
shaft. I got my shaft cleaned up in the lathe and made a new nylon
bush.

Thanks for the pic Sam, sure wished my steering shaft looked that good! I'm with you on the friction washers, I'll make my own for it, still need to buy the star washer though.

BTW, I found a dealer near me that sells that bearing for the top of the column....its a mere $132.00! So I think I'm gonna pass on that and opt for a bushing of some sort. I wont know the inside diameter for the bushing until I can get my steering shaft welded back up and turned down to the proper diameter though. So its probably gonna be awhile longer.

If I get a chance Ill post a pic of my steering shaft on here.
