Need tractor recommendations for 20 acres

Recently purchased a 20 acre piece of land and had around 5 cleared for home site. I need to purchase a tractor to brush hog, plow, driveway maintenance and odd jobs. My budget is around 4-7k. Lots of old tractors around me I just don’t know much about them. Please any info is welcome as I’m a newbie….thanks

Man you've opened the door for a hundred suggestions, so here's mine and why. Case 300, 430, 530 with Eagle hitch. Easy to hook up to implements and the hydraulics are easy to control, no up and down can't get it set right fighting. Parts are readily available.

Given today's prices and your budget probably a 4000 or 5000 Ford. Won't have a cab or MFWD but little that includes both features can be bought for that kind of money.

You could get 100 different suggestions to your question. So I'll stick to just the features to look for...

1. Likely gas engine. At this price range, and the amount you'll likely use it, gas ought to serve you well. Diesel is probably an unnecessary feature.
2. Two stage clutch or live PTO. If you're going to bush hog, you'll want that.
3. Live hydraulics (normal for newer tractors, not a given on older stuff)
4. Do you have a local/favorite dealer? It can make a big difference on the best brand to look for.

Nice to haves/further comments
1. Differential lock. Given that you'll likely be 2wd, diff lock is an important feature.
2. At this price range, unless you really need it, I'd avoid a front end loader tractor.

You don't mention if 4-7k is your total budget, or just for the tractor. Perhaps look for a package deal, where you can get some implements too, as they can also cost a lot. You'll likely want a 5-6 foot brush mower, 6-7 foot grader blade (a bit wider is good, because you'll often be using it angled, which reduces the effective width), perhaps a 5 foot box blade (for driveway maintenance), a 3 point carry all, a 3 point post hole digger (building any fence?). This can add up quickly.

Power steering, and fyi any 4 speed Ford tractor will have a transmission pto which will need an over running coupler on the pto shaft between bush hog and tractor. Not a deal breaker just something to be aware of. Also fyi don't get an ag style tractor with a front end loader and treat it like a similar industrial tractor with front end loader. Size/stoutness matters.

The older I get the more I appreciate a tractor with a loader, a backhoe, power steering, 4 wheel drive, 3 point hitch, a cab with heat and AC.
I don't think there is just one saw to cut wood and I don't think there is a universal tractor that can do everything well with a limited budget.
Good excuse to have more than one tractor.

X2 on the MF 35/135 suggestion. Maybe even a 150, but they are harder to find.

I will suggest a Ford 3 cyl. 4000. There are so many of them out there that parts are very readily available. They are two generations newer than the ones dbNga references, and have everything that Steve in IL. references. Most important: do not think for a second about if there is a nearby dealer. They will not want your business! They will not have the parts! They will have to order them in. There are numerous online sources for parts, that will have them in stock and ship the same day. With a little looking around you can find one of the local traveling repair guys if needed.

I recommend the Oliver 1550 or 1650. both have great power and the hydra power drive is nice to have when you need a little more power when pulling things. Also they have power steering and a 3 point hitch.

I see 750/850 JD fwd tractors for that now, if you watch Marketplace. Made by Yanmar. Great tractors and have 4wd. Great loader tractor, I have seen a few for $8,000 with loader. I also see little fwd Ford tractors with the loader for that. They were tough little tractors, a lot of them in city parks and golf courses, pulling gang mowers. Both big enough to pull a 5'-6' driveway groomer/grader....James
