Needle air scaler

Has anyone ever used an needle air
scaler?
I build things out horse shoes and
just need a way to clean the the dirt
and light rust off them

Thanks

I found one in the ditch while bicycling. Not as good (cleaner and cheaper though) as sandblasting, better than power wire brush. Has it's place.

I bought one from Northern Tool that I like pretty well. Used it to get the rust off a rear tractor rim. It will dent thin metal.

Love mine-great for knocking off scale and things like frozen dirt. Noisy and throws stuff everywhere--eye and ear protection are a must. As noted, not for use on sheet metal, but should be fine on something like a horseshoe.

i have a Ingersoll rand scaler. it has 3 positions on collar to adjust how far the needles travel. i use the longest travel for welding slag. shorter travel for delicate things at reduced air pressure.

Hi, I’ve had one for the last 30 years and used it mainly for smashing paint off on tractor chassis before painting. Wouldn’t be without it. Have just replaced the needles at a cost of £14 ($20?). Have two MFs to clean. You need a capable compressor to keep up continual use though.

Been using one since the mid-1970's. Works great on rust, scale and thick paint, the kind that is 2, 3, 4 layers deep on an old tractor. I also use mine to knock the scale off of welds instead of a scale hammer.

I got one from Harbor Freight. Had to degrease it's innards but it's a handy little devil. Makes removing slag from welding 10x easier. Very, very handy for cleaning up rims.

I have one, from Harbor Freight. Used it to clean up rusted trims that had been long neglected under cars. Took a while, but did a job that probably couldn't have done with wire brushes and sandblasting, unless you have an industrial grade blaster. Noisy and dirt flies everywhere. Eye and ear protection absolutely necessary.

I've owned one for several years now. Don't remember where I bought it. Maybe Menard's?

It did an excellent job of removing multiple layers of paint from some Farmall wheel weights. I've used it for knocking off slag from welding projects also. Everybody that messes with old iron needs one.

Harbor Freight here also. I've had the thing probably 15 or so years. It's seen a lot of work and I like it a lot.

(quoted from post at 12:46:11 12/02/20) Magic for cleaning up used bricks.

When I bought a new blade for my roll over box scraper, I took the old blade and there was a thick layer of rust under where the blade had been. I used that needle scaler on it and it looked brand new again. Nice and clean. They really are a neat tool to have.

I have never replaced the needles on it yet but a new set of needles for it is $9.95 at Harbor Freight.

Darn. Thought I had all the tools a guy can use. Now I need to make another trip to HF and use that 25% coupon they just emailed. And get another one of those freebie blue led lights. Got them laying all over the place. Wish they would come up with another freebie. Got plenty of free batteries and electrical circuit testers already.
