Got to drive a friends 6330 Premium today with the auto 24/24 speed transmission and all the bells and whistles. I personally liked the fridge/cooling compartment myself. What a nice tractor though. I drove a comparable New Holland last year and it had a funky transmission with a giant shift/control arm. It also had a lot more buttons & levers that were mounted in hard to reach/see areas around the console. I like the command center, seemed like a real nice feature too. Far cry from my MT & LA! It truly made me want to quite my day job and go back to full time farming!

May be fine now, but wait till its 60 years old and no computer parts are available, and the plastic parts have all broken into little pieces.
Tractors, cars and trucks have all become disposable like Timex watches. They won't last long enough to ever become collectable.

Well said. I spent a few hours cutting hay today on a 4230 that is approx 35years old, and will probably still be working on our farm when, alot of these 6000 series tractors are in the salvage yard. Recent engine inframe, new fuel system, front pump, trans pump, top shaft, shifter parts, and even a three pinion deferintial carrier out of a 4440. And No, we didn't do all of that at one time, but within the past few years, as needed. I just can't see anyone doing a certified rebuild on a plastic tractor. They are tractors to use not to keep.

Don"t let the old grumps ruin your fun.
I recall as a kid the old grey beards crying and moaning about those d*mmed fool new fangled 3020"s and 4020"s.
They complained abouth those great big fuel hogs that nobody needs. Engines that ran so fast and so loud. The engines would wear out sooner and deafen the driver. The new stuff will never last like the good old reliable 60,70,720"s etc so they said.
Tell the nay sayers to stick 90% of it where the sun don"t shine. I do believe that simpler is better. The 6000 D series or the plain 7000 series is better.
You can thank the folk that voted nnalert and the folk that didn"t go out and vote nnalert. For the damage done by the safety nazis from the EPA, CAFE etc. For making equipment complex and expensive.
b.t.w. plastic doesn"t rust.

I traded my 2550 2WD on a new 6230 4WD with cab last year. I really like the tractor. No problems so far but it only has 210 hrs. It pulls my JD 66 4-14 plow better than my 2cyl 830, especially in hard packed clay ground. But it does use a lot more fuel than the 830. Al

Care to divulge the delivery date of your New fuel efficient plastic JD tractor that you suggest everyone buy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever researched for electrical and injector failures on the tractors you are so proud of?????????

Sorry, if I had a choice between a 2020, 2030, 2155 of any other 40-60 hp range Deere and a 5000 series, I would go newer 5000 series in heartbeat. The same goes for the larger 100hp range and up. Why buy something that has a ton of hours on it. might need repair soon and has parts which are going obsolete?

Craig, you just did an inframe, and are talking about plastic parts. You are aware that the new drivetrains aren't any different than what you have now, there is no "plastic" in them. they are still cast iron, aluminum, and steel. And what was wrong with the carrier of your 4230? If the tractor was so good, you shouldn't have to be putting in a carrier out of a 4440. As for you saying how many 6000 series tractor will be in junk yards, probably the same amount that there is of 4020's, 3020's and your beloved 4230 and the 4440 you were stealing parts from (I'm assuming you put in a used carrier, if not I stand corrected on that point).

Let's look at how many fender on older tractors are rusted junks? How about battery boxes on 3020 & 4020's are rotten? Bent to heck and rusting hoods? The "plastic" fenders won't rust, and if not abused or purposely ruined, they will last many more years than the tins for yesteryear.

Let's go to the operator station, the new cabs are night and day better than the 1970's. More comfortable, quieter, and even the heater and AC work better than when that 1982 cab was new. Maybe I'm in the minority, but my ears ring all the time now, so it is nice to work in a cab that isn't making my hearing even worse.

Sorry, I will take the PowerTech in an 8000 series Deere any day over running a 5020 and really working it. Better fuel efficiency, more power and a heck of lot more comfortable, not to mention easier on the body.

How many people stick with old tractors still drive cars and trucks daily from the 1950's thru the 70s? Not that many. Sure a friend of a friend's BIL still drives a '76 pick-up, but that is the exception. I had a 1967 Chevy pick-up for years (it was even my Dad's before me) and it was used as a truck. I now drive a 2006 Silverado. Do you think the old iron is always better? Lets compare 1967 vs 2006: cab quiet level 2006, fuel economy 2006, ride comfort 2006, fuel tank size and location 2006, HP and Tq stock engine 2006. The 1967 truck was fun and great in a coolness factor, but when taking 4 hour trips, it was nice have a 26 gallon gas tank compared to the 12 gallon the '67 had. Not to mention nice and quiet and comfortable. Why do we mainly drive 1990 and newer vehicles? Because they are better, just like a tractor or dozer or backhoe.

Why blame me for societies faults? I don't appove of the dim witted dolts that either "graduate" or drop out of the public education system. These supposed "mechanics" that can't trace even the simplest electrical fault.I also don't appove of the safety nazis in the EPA and CAFE that mandated such complexity.
Have you ever seen plastic rust? Just how much of these new tractors are plastic? Your plastic conversn are a non issue, red herring and hearsay evidence.
I remember my Grand parents talking about folk bitterly opposed to electric lights in houses, barns and running water.

Never stated or implied I was blaming. Just thought you were so proud o fthe new JD's that yours would be on the delivery schedule. I know other peoples money is easier to spend.

Really I own a 2008 GMC 1/2 ton 4.8L/3.42 gears that I promise you won't get over 11MPG and I did own a '66 Chevy 1/2 ton 327/3.73 gears I bought new that would consistently get 15 mpg. Progress has come a long way.

BTW answer my question!!!!!!!

When's your NEW JD TRACTOR GOING TO ARRIVE??????? NEVER

Jim, you might have someone check out that truck of yours. Your mileage should be a lot better than that. My dad's 08, C-2500 with the 6.0 and 3.73 gets that mileage.

My 2006 K1500 has the 5.3L with the 3.42 rear and gets 19-20mpg.

My '67 with a 350 and stock 4.11 rear would get 10-11mpg, and the engine would turn, if my memory serves me correctly, around 3500 erpm at 60 mph. The truck would run hot in the summer on the highway, to the point where I would need to turn the heater on so it wouldn't overheat. And we won't even go to having to climb in the engine compartment to change the points and condenser.

What else is better on the '66 truck? Other than coolness, not much.....

And yes, if I could find another '67, C-10, stepside with an 8 foot bed and small back window (Chevy also had the larger window), I would buy and drive it.

I bought the truck used with 9000+ miles on it and it now has 30,000+ miles. It has no codes or lights on dash showing. I bought it expecting 15-16 mpg but no way.
