Hi all,
I just got my first 8n and first tractor today. It's a 51 I got from the local tractor dealer who got two of them on trade in from the original owner (he had two, one painted blue!). The one I got is a super nice working tractor. All tin is great, paint looks original, tires are good and everything works. It has been converted to a 12 volt system and the dealer put a new battery in it because someone had left the key on. It has a new working proofmeter with 6 hrs on it. The ammeter doesn't seem to be hooked up so I put my meter on the battery while running and it was putting out over 16 volts! Why would it be so high? Also, before I put the meter on it I pulled a battery cable to see if it would stay running, I remember that's how we use to test the charging system back in the 70's. As soon as I pulled the cable the motor died so I thought maybe it wasn't charging, that's why I got the meter out. Shouldn't it stay running when you pull the cable? What wire do you splice to wire up the ammeter? Been cruising the forum and have been learning lots. thanks in advance.
