New Forum Format

The first reply is never indented because it's technically a reply to the thread just like a chronological forum or view. Replies to any of those first level posts indent. Unfortunately, they stop at 5 levels in because phones can't handle it. A change I'll be working on is to be able know if the persons on a phone and stop it only for phones, so the indents can continue for desktops with lots of screen space. It needs to keep indenting to be really like classic view.

But that first level is always the same as the original post. Doesn't have to be that way and we could change it if that's too confusing. That makes the phone issue worse though so that has to be figured out first.
Any thoughts on gathering the questions into an FAQ post?

Not sure I like the "similar threads" thing at the bottom. It adds distraction
I am not sure where I stand on the similar threads either. I got used to them in a way because another forum I have been on about a year has them. You just have to watch the dates of the posts otherwise you will find yourself replying to an old subject.

"Similar threads" is good if one is looking for some relevant information to the current thread.

I.e, if your thread is about "tires and wheels", a similar thread might have the information you are looking for, without having to search for it.

Use the browser "back" button to exit the current thread and get back to the list of threads in the current topic. One more "back" will get you back to where you started (generally).

Coming from classic view, I miss being able to roll back to the top and grab another forum. Now you must return to home page to choose another forum. I see a learning curve for me.
i read in another forum here that the "roll back" would eventually happen if i understood them right

The more I use it the more I see that they took a "best of both worlds" approach.

If you notice, my response is indented below yours, indicating that it is in reply to your post, just like Classic View.

Well, it should be at least.
There is a bit of a learning curve here, kind of like digging into anew tactor or implement that you pick up, but we have all been there many times most of us can do it.

The search option is a huge plus for me. The previous layout was more complicated if you ask me but then again, I haven't been on this forum as long as some of my elders. As I said, I'm 65 but I can understand somebody I'm their 70's not adapting to the change. I would recommend to my elders to navigate through all the buttons and scroll downs options. Try it for a couple days. Members haven't changed, just the layout.

The difference with classic and other forums was that classic would thread replies in following the post being replied to. So this works like classic including how you do it. Clicking reply on the post you want to reply to, filling in the text and clicking the post button. It doesn't look like classic because there is formatting and extra features show up, but they aren't necessary to use. All that is necessary to use is the Reply link and post button, which is how classic worked.

There are also avatars (those circles) which some people will think are ugly and others will grow tired of seeing the same pictures over and over, turn those off in preferences (Hide Avatars) and it becomes more text oriented like classic. What can't be done is to get rid of the extra boxes around things (classic had only one box around the posts, this has two) or the extra features shown in all the icons (again, those can just be ignored because they are only there if you want to use the formatting they allow).

One other thing that is different is that classic had a "Hop to:" pulldown menu which let you jump right to another forum after you're done in the one your in. We are going to create one but haven't got around to it yet.

I'll be researching what else I can let each person turn off, which the more it looks like straight text, the more it will look like classic too. I already learned there are some things (smilies in particular) that I can't turn off even though it was requested, because of how the software is designed. But there is still room for improvement.
Those colored balloons are the first thing that need to go. It's like looking at a dam wonder bread wrapper. I hate it. Having to go back to go forward (can't find a drop down to change forums from where I am) is already tiresome.

They said you can get rid of those. They're called avatars. Go into your preferences and check the box that says to eliminate them. Problem solved.

To get rid of the colored ballons click on your handle (profile) at the top right. When the drop down opens click on Preferences. When that list opens scroll down to the Avatar Display and check the box to the right of it to Hide the Avatars. Then click SAVE at the center bottom of the window.

To go back to the Forum list quicker. If you just start to scroll up you should see an Up Arrow in the lower right of the page. Click that arrow and it returns you to the top where you can click on Forums and get the index list. I believe Chris is working on getting a better way to jump between forums.

They're still there on the "forum index" or whatever you call it though. I can live without the circus atmosphere.

I have been viewing and posting here for a while. I'm not a fan of the changes that have been made.

Well I hate it already. I thought it was supposed to look more like Classic unless you opted for it not to.

Too frustrated from having to set up a new TV today to be learning this right now.

Good night. I'm out.
I agree.get a roku tv n touch wrong button n its $%^^%$#tv

Put a picture of your tractor or something in there instead of the circus balloon. Very easily done.
What about the other thousands of users, and not to mention the one and dones, and theres those who simply dont have pics. This wholestyle reaks of an Andriod OS to me. It looks just as someone said, cartoonish.

In your preference settings you can check the box to turn them off. They are called avatars

Oh well, if you don't like it and don't want to adapt to it nothing I can say will make any difference.
