New Holland 276

Can anyone tell me whats broke/Needs replaced on a New Holland 276 Baler when the Pickup for the the windrow stops. Would like to fix it and either send it to an auction or sell it privately.

But when we last used it, While baling hay the pickup would stop like it was getting too much hay in the chamber and stop. But if I remember correctly its stopped altogether now.


Prolly tear into it tomorrow but Any help/info would be great, Thanks.

Either a broken sheer bolt, or broken chain. Anyway that is what my 273 had.

Pickup is driven from the left side of the baler by a shaft that runs to the right hand side of the pickup. It is chain driven on the left hand side and drives the pickup on the right hand side via a chain.

It should have a slip-clutch that might be slipping if the pick-up is jammed up

Not sure how 276 compares to my 282, but on the 282 on the left side drive area it has a clutch setup so if flywheel is rolled backwards, pickup does not move. There are 2 dowel pins that ride in a housing with springs behind them and a sort of ramp they ride against. On my 282 these got stuck and pickup quit. They are supposed to be oiled occasionally.

Check the cam and the cam rollers on the pickup.You might have one or more binding up causing the clutch to slip.Not a hard fix but a little time consuming.

I second starting by checking the cam track and cam rollers. we had trouble with our 275 and the cam track had worn through in one place and was catching the rollers every now and then

Yep, the guys that are saying cam track got it right. Got the same style on the old 65. After 10,000 bales a year for the last 10 years My cam track wore so thin that it bent like a piece of card board last year and then a roller would catch on it every now and then. Worked fine with no hay in it. As soon as you started back in the windrow it would stop. Took a long time to figure that one out. Take a 1" wide strap and kind of bend it to the right radius and tack weld it in there. take the grinder and smooth down the edge so the rollers glide over it. Hardest part of the whole job is taking 3 or 4 of the tine guides off so you can get in there. It will take a couple hours for the repair.
