New holland 315

I am having trouble with the needles not returning home, the shear bolt will break when the needles are all the way up which them makes it very hard to bring needles back down. I thought it was some extra baling wire that was wrapped up but then it did it again.

could be the brake is set too tight. If it hasn't been run in a while it might get sticky. You could try taking the lift arm off the needles and see if they move easily then. If not could be the brackets on the sides of the bale case where needles pivot. It looks like the knotter drive chain is really loose, but I don't think that would cause your problem

You need to adjust the needles per the adjustment in your manual. Proper positioning side to side and front to back. Then roll it over by hand to check action.

The timing is looks to be correct, I did find a lot of wire wrapped around the post, I cleared that out it seems to be working now, except for the clutch pawl, I have it set so it will trip and reset but the pawl is t pushed as far forward as I think it should be when the clutch comes around it grabs for a sec and then releases or is that how it should be? It would be nice to stop fixing the main roller chain. Do the chains ever need to be replaced this baler was sitting in a field for 10+ yrs.

I recommend pouring a least a pint of oil on top of each coil of wire after in inserted in holding container. I always open top of box before pouring the oil on the wire.

Need to replace the little latch in the
clutch there will be 2 - 3/8 bolts one
holds the latch and one holds the stop
cheap and easy fix try it and see this
sounds like your problem
