A guy wants to buy a NH sickle mower we have. We don't use it, so I don't mind letting it go, but I have no idea what it's worth. Anyone know what we should ask

5-10 years ago it would have been about $100 to $300. These days it could be a fair bit more (depending on condition). Those trail type NH's were good mowers. They were available with two types of manual lift (IH style with a clutch plate and Cockshutt/Oliver style with a wind-up rope and second larger counterbalance spring). Also available with hydraulic lift. The type of lift might influence the price, but different buyers might want different liftss. I have one of those NH's along with 4 other brands of sickle mowers, and have had and used many others as well. That NH is one of the better ones, but being a pitman drive makes it rather less desirable than a wobble-box/counterbalanced head style.

Very much dependent on the location and locals too. Around here sickle mowers are fetching stupidly high prices and being traded back and forth at a ridiculous rate. The horse nuts figure that a sickle mower is the ideal unit to clip their pasture, until they realize that using a sickle mower actually requires a fair bit of skill; they can't just drop the bar and go. So they buy it for a crazy price because they have more money than brains, try using it once or twice, get frustrated, let it sit in the shed for a couple of seasons, then sell to another nut for a similarly-ridiculous price, and the cycle repeats...

Some things to consider. How much do you like this neighbour? Would you use the mower if you didn't sell it, or would it just collect dust? If he didn't buy it, would you go through all the trouble of listing it online and having tire-kickers come by? Are all the guards in good shape with sharp ledgers and a good knife in it?

If it's a neighbour you get along with and you have no use for the mower I wouldn't ask much more than $300, but that's just me. If you want to get maximum price and want to post online, you could get twice that. Maybe even more if you have as many horse nuts in your area as I do. But taking a bit of a hit on an old sickle mower to help out a neighbour might not be a bad thing.

In good shape 300-500 bucks. Is a fair range.

A decade ago might be double that, but disc mowers have taken over. Sickle mowers are kind of fading. Not gone by a long shot, but the demand isnt what it used to be.

They used to sell for $750.00 here. I haven't watched 1 sell for a couple years

Around here the NH pitman mowers around $500 a good NH 456 will run $1000 to $2000.
