I’ve got an Oliver 100 baler with that same engine. Notice the screen in front of the air intake to keep hay and dust out of the engine.Looks like that particular "New Idea" was a bad Idea. I'd like to have the Wisconsin engine though !
That would have been coming home with me. It's a very rare NI baler. One there was a major recall on & a couple people did not return theirs.saw this in Oklahoma the other day,View attachment 89675View attachment 89676View attachment 89677View attachment 89680
I saw a nice one of those at the Half Century Of Progress in 2017. like Mike said, they were all supposed to be sent back to the company, probably for scrapping. Definitely worth trying to salvage. That would have been coming home with me. It's a very rare NI baler. One there was a major recall on & a couple people did not return theirs.

New Idea started with a better beater design for manure spreaders in the late 1800s. The company had several good ideas and successful products in their 100 plus years, but much like me not every new idea was a good idea. That would have been coming home with me. It's a very rare NI baler. One there was a major recall on & a couple people did not return theirs.

Pushing the hay into the baler pickup with your feet?Should have
caught on
Needs a good scolding from DadPushing the hay into the baler pickup with your feet? The guy might’ve eventually been nicknamed “Stumpy”. If he was lucky.
I’m somewhat attracted to oddball farm equipment. I wouldn’t mind having either the New Idea baler or the one in the video.
Maybe was supposed to be competition for the NH 77?saw this in Oklahoma the other day,View attachment 89675View attachment 89676View attachment 89677View attachment 89680
We had a Model 64 John Deere field chopper with that motor. Loved to hear the governor "dig in" when it came to a thick patch ! Still remember the sound, 60 years later.Like to hear that Wisconsin with without mufflers rack off in the hills of Pa . Whole valley would know it’s old Nellie!
