new idea model 404 hay rake

The original subject was "new idea model 404 hay rake".

The part number from AGCO dealer is 400343. The clip cost around $14. Seems a bit high for such a small part/clip. maybe someone has another resource or better way to make-shift a part? I need about 20 of these and not willing to spend $300.

You say you're not willing to spend $300.Can you replace it for $300?Is it in otherwise good shape?Does it do the job?I'd spend the money to fix, rather spend more money on an 'unknown'.

I'm with you on trying to find a cheaper way......But if $300 was the only way to fix it,I'd spend the money

Bill, If the clip you are talking about is what holds the teeth to the bar, I might be able to help you. My dad took an old New Idea rake apart years ago and I think I have all the teeth, clips, and bolts that were good. Post a picture of the part. Al

I looked at the rake this evening. I actually really need only 5 clips (not so bad) and 25 new teeth. I have some teeth and there"s plenty of sources for more, so that"s not a big deal. I"m trying to post a picture of the clip. The New Holland clips do not work. I"ve tried them before and they are too small.

I would entertain a source of a few used ones. Much apprciated in advanced.

Bill, They do look like the ones on the New Idea rake my dad took apart. Only problem is whats left of the rake is buried under at least 3 feet of snow here in NE WI. I will be glad to check for them if you can wait until the snow melts which might be at the end of April the way things are going. My email is open and if you can wait 2 months, I can probably help. Al

AJB-830 If in the spring. you have any of the clips left I would be interested as I bought a 404 rake that someone had put all rubber teeth on that had rotted or broke off I would like to keep this old rake from going to the scrap and make use of it thanks Bill

What did you end up doing for these clips? I am looking for several of the same clips. The store that used to carry them went out of business so I am out of luck. I have looked online and most of my farm parts dealers with no luck.
