New job today

I usually get a couple new mowing jobs a season, and lose a couple. This guy called about a mowing job. He was concerned about my tractor messing up his gravel driveway. I unloaded at the beginning of his driveway., to stay off of it. I had to drive my empty truck and trailer through his yard to turn around. Not realizing without the tractor the trailer brakes were more sensitive. I am heading down his gravel drive way, using little brakes. I look back one of my trailer tires is locked up, sliding cutting a path down to base material. I back off the brakes I start going faster. Hit the brakes again, another tire path. Some times you just can't win. Took a little time, but I had a broom in my truck and got the road looking ok again. Stan

Electric or hydraulic trailer brakes? If electric can't you just reach down and back the brakes off on the controller? If not, I'll suggest you get a different controller since you tow a lot. My controllers all let me adjust braking force on the controller easily, back off for the empty trailer and increase to match the load.

Shift the tow vehicle into a lower gear to get extra engine braking. If 4WD engage 4Hi or 4 Lo to keep the truck axles working together.

If electric brakes just unplug the trailer electric connection when in a driveway or on grass. Don[t forget to reconnect before getting on the road.

Can't win for lose. If I didn't have to deal with a gravel drive and the high cost let restate stratospheric price of gravel I would say he's being unrealistic, but he is likely paying through the nose on driveway maintenance. I do my own blading so little cost there but aggregate in the Mobile Al area is at a all time high. At the yard down on the intracoastal canal $57 a ton for #57. Railyards in Mobile are $70 a ton.
