New problem/project

Got my BN out of my winter storage today and noticed the radiator was a bit low. Found the missing water in the oil pan. Tractor was fine last last year when it was put away. I guess I can add taking the head off to my list of other tractor projects this year. Hopefully head is good, just needs a rebuild and a new head gasket. I had plenty of other tractor related projects planned without adding this one.

Unfortunately it is more likely to be coming past the cylinder to sleeve orings. Before you pull the head remove the oil pan. Turn the engine so all the pistons are at mid level in their stroke. Then with a good light or flashlight look to see if the coolant is dripping down past the pistons which would mean the head gasket is the likely problem. If it is dripping off the bottom of the sleeves I think you know what that means. If the tractor was outside where it was cold the leak-by may have only happened when it was real cold. If there was any amount at all in the pan the leak is probably happening no matter the temp.

Good point. I've got to wait for better weather as I have an outdoor shop. Fortunately I have 11 more back ups for the tractor while its out of service. LOL

Used red may well be right.
Mine had rusted clear through the sleeve, just above the O-ring (where probably the most crud had accumulated ).
