Got to the planter today. Going to make a real nice sweet corn planter. Bought it sight unseen and every single thing on it works perfect. The lids have some cracks but should work fine.

Looks nice, i had a no 58, 8 row 30, pull type, dont think mine had those chain guards, did they use to have a 55 steel chain that drove the seed plate?

185/295? good lookin outfit! like the liquid fertilzer 'injector'.I use a similar one, works great.Good lookin 'planter tractor' too, btw.

Nice to see the old time equipment being put to work. The big boys her in southern Id. are planting sugar beets, beans, and corn with 24 row planters. That's too many units to watch over.

Thanks guys. It's a 295 planter and a Super MTA. I'm not sure about the chain size, but yeah they are behind the white shields. I need to lube those up too they are a little sticky. I might end up replacing the chains anyway. It is a 2 point now, was a 3 point with a double bar and a granular insecticide set up when I bought it. Grandpa has been red since the beginning so we have a lot of 2 point parts laying around. These prongs bolt right on the diamond bar and fit awesome. The fertilizer system was built from an old 4 wheeler sprayer tank and pump I had laying around the shop. Going to try to get grandpa on it this spring for old times sake. He's 85.

That's great if your Grandfather can get the chance to operate, I'm sure the grin will be touching both his ears !, plus the smile on your face, don't forget the camera.

We had a 56 4 row pull type it drove the seed plate of the ground wheels not the press wheels. I suspect the 58 would be the same. That is likely why you don't remember the shields.

I like everything about that picture, that's a nice looking rig, in your spare time how about a pict. from the front.

Ive got a John Deere 71 flex planter, basically the same thing as yours, it was a 6 row 30 and I narrowed it to 4 row 24 and rebuilt the three point to fit my utility tractor.

I'd like to put liquid fertilizer on it like you did, how do you know the rate your putting down?

I have a tee right out of the pump with a provision for a
pressure gauge. One way runs to the trunk line on the tool bar
and I have orifices inline on each row. I think they are a
number 39 orifice. Out of the other side of the tee I have a
quarter turn ball valve and a hose run back to the drain on the
back of the tank. I regulate the pressure with this bypass
valve. According to the figures for these orifices if I drive 5mph
at 10psi I will be applying 5 gal/acre.
