New to me 530

Hello Everyone, My wife picked up this 530 at an estate sale knowing that I was looking for a bigger tractor than my to-35 to bale my alfalfa with. Has an issue with the eagle hitch staying up and from what I've researched and the way it's transferring fluid from torque tube to transmission it needs the seals on the rock shaft replaced. The guys told her it was a 1968 but it has no tag on the dash is I'm unsure of the year of manufacture. Also I noticed it would drive in 1st, 2nd and 3rd but not 4th high. It came with really nice manuals for a 530ck but they have no info on the rock shaft. Are they universal or do I need to disassemble before I buy parts and any ideas on the 4th gear not working. Thanks

Migration of hydraulic oil from the torque tube into the transmission, baring a cracked case, is seal failure in one or more different areas and in order of likelihood, Eagle hitch piston seals, pto drive shaft seal, and/or transmission main shaft drive seals in the front of the transmission.

The usual way to check hitch piston seals is to raise the draft arms with some weight and leave them up for several hours or over night if they are not noticeably leaking down sooner. If the draft arms stay up the seals are not leaking, if they drop the seals are leaking or it is possible but not real likely the hydraulic lock on the piston is bleeding back through the safety interlock and the control valve.

The next most likely oil migration source is through the pto drive shaft seal located at the front of differential cavity below the rock shaft cover (pic is an older tractor for orientation, same basic view). While you have the rock shaft cover off, check for oil leakage through this pto shaft seal. Ensure the torque tube sump is full, dry the seal area and watch for oil seepage. You can run the engine a few seconds to rotate the shaft and shutdown. The slightest smear of oil leak will be a lot of oil over time.

The least likely leak is the transmission main drive shaft O.D. seal at the front of the transmission. Requires a split to correct.

Link 1 is early 530 parts manual.
Link 2 is Eagle hitch piston. There are several piston/seal designs so eyeball what is in your tractor before ordering. Things get swapped around over the years.
Link 3 is the pto shaft seal (#10) and transmission main drive shaft seals (#18).

looks like a 1960 to 1963 to me with the dash in it , not sure what all Joe posted as I forgot to read all of it but the shifting can be a shift fork issue hopefully,, other than its not as easy getting on and off with that style loader you have a Great machine that will do far more than its size leads you to think

Thank you for all that info. Those links were what I was looking for. Will tear into it and figure it out. Who do you recommend for parts.

This site sells parts, other than that John Saeli (315) 585-9826 long time poster here, stocks lots of parts and is very experienced in early tractors.

Agree with CNT on shifter probably the issue with 4th gear problem.

Not to harsh on you but a construction loader is a bit heavy for a hay field unless you don't mind leaving ruts everywhere.

If you use it to handle round bales, please put a grapple fork on it so the bale doesn't roll back and sit on your lap.

I so get what you are saying but compared to a fwa 100hp tractor of today the 530 is like a garden tractor as far as weight, and many today run a 150 plus hp one for baling lol
