Hi guys, I am usually on the farmall forum, but recently picked up what I think is a 1948 8n, hasn't run in 20 years but engine is free. but it has a bad oil leak from right side of differential where the arms to the three point are attached. Seems really loose, any info on what to do to stop leak.

thanks

welcome, dick :)

you'll need to replace that pin, which is accessible by removing the [i:ddd6424005]left[/i:ddd6424005] axle trumpet, i believe.

The benefit of removing the left side is that you can do both of them from the left. You can repair the right by removing the right side but you cannot get to the left from the right!

ahhh, ty sir. learn something new every day :)

Before tightening the new pins test to see if they
fit snug and seal the chamfered shaft hole. I had
one all wallowed out that would not seal. JB Weld
applied to the shaft before installing and
tightening did the trick.

Recently replaced pins on my Ford 2-N.......Tractor had not ran for 30+ years...
Major cleaning undertaken...
Removed Lift cover so as to CLEAN...
Removed HYD pump so as to clean..

Removed left axel housing. Replaced both lower lift arm PINS...

Thanks guys for your info, I got the I&T manual, but you make it clearer. Now I just have to find the parts, assuming I will also need gaskets and seals and whatever looks like it should be replaced. Don't have any dealers in the area I know of so will have to research that.
