New tractor purchase

Wednesday I took delivery of a new L3302 (gear trans)Kabota with a loader and quick hitch. I traded my JD 3005, I didn't realize I had that thing for 16 years. I should have traded 10 years ago. I looked at a 3025D Deere but decided to go with the 33 hp Kubota. I was familiar with the L3400 tractor and really liked it. This is the first loader/FWA tractor I have owned. I was concerned about the internal overrunning PTO clutch as my neighbor I once worked for ha a L3400 and the ORC on it was noisy and clunky and made mowing difficult in confined areas but this one works as smooth as an independent when stopping and backing up. I have put 8 hours on it since yesterday mowing with the 5 ft. rotary mower . We have had so much rain just like last spring that I haven't been able to get the garden broke up. I picked out the tractor on the 5th and told the dealer owner not to deliver it until the following week because we were going to be getting rain for for the remainder of the week and weekend and all I would be able to do is sit and look at the tractor and not be ale to use it. We have had four rain free days and the ground is still saturated in most places.

I feel your pain, East Texas. Can still hardly walk in the garden, It is terribly over run with weeds.

I didn't realize tractors of that size without live PTO were still being sold?

Your money, your choice but I’m wondering why you chose gear vs hydro for a utility tractor used with a loader & mowing?

Yeah, the 40+ hp tractors have independent PTO and the smaller hydrastats have two stage clutches but the 2501/2nd L3301/2 have internal ORC, the L3901 states live-continuous running, L4701 has live wet clutch with PTO brake.

The gear driven transmissions provide 2-3 more PTO horsepower than the HST transmissions. I won't be doing a great amount of loader work as far as dirt and gravel stuff,it will be my disking, tilling and planting tractor mainly. I am old school and like shifting gears. I do have one hst lawn tractor and a zero turn.

I too bought a gear drive tractor when HST was available, I imagine it was somewhat less money, I don't remember, it was 2001. It's a JD4600, and we love it! The 4 speed is fully synchromesh, so I can just hit the clutch and shift up or down anytime, and it has 3 ranges, and a reverser that you use without the clutch. It's called a 12-12 power reverser. Our neighbor bought a similar tractor with HST and he's had trouble with it overheating, ours never goes above the normal area. We use ours mostly for mowing and brushcutting, very little loader or snow removal.
