New world record soybean yield

I just read on AgWeb that a young farmer in Georgia just set a new yield record for soybeans. 206 bushels per acre! Hard to believe. He planted only 85000 seeds per acre, irrigated, threw the kitchen sink at them. The 10 acre plot was within a 60 acre field that ran over 100 bu/acre. The beans must have been the size of marbles as it only took about 1900 to weigh a pound(3000_3300 seeds/lb is typical). Shows what is possible when everything is ideal.

Yepper, I think about every time I buy fertilizer for my haying operation......will the number of bales at least equal my fertilizer investment, fuel cost, and repair bill....realizing that fertilizer does make a difference in crop yield.

Soil has a lot to do with it. The guys around here that raise top yields are usually on a river or creek flat.

I thought probably it was Randy Dowdy. He had the old record at 190, but it wasn't. They say Dowdy farms ground that's not good for anything but holding the Earth together and still gets yields like that.

I shared that info with a friend this morning. He said ya but he probably needs 300bpa to pay for his inputs, LOL

Have to research this more. Randy is pretty good about sharing
information about his operation including input costs.
