I have looked at several tractors.
I have narrowed it down I think to 5240 5250 Case Ih. used
or the MX series ( these are hard to find)
Are the case Ih maxium series any good I looked at a 115 it seamed cheap?

I think if you google the MX series you will find some problems and the prices reflect that. As for the 5250 and 5150 They seem to be very dependable and rack up impressive hours. I purchased one last spring with supposedly 5500 hrs. But when I got it home and was searching for a gremlin discovered it had 10,000. Seems to start, run and pull well though. Unless you know the history on the tractor I would now take a phillips screw driver, pull the cluster and check the back to see if the hour meter had been replaced or in my case the cluster and hour meter had been swapped. The 5240/50 are just about bullit proof, you will have to look very hard to find something better.

How do you know when the hour meter has been tampered with? or switched? I have guys telling me that the 5250 5240 ect are having trouble getting parts since the Doncaster plant has colsed. Argo closed the plant now all mccormicks are going to be is a red landini. I agree that some of the mx are showing up with some issues. May have to go to kubota. Deere is no better witht he newer ones anyway I have no knoldege on deere models what is good and what is bad

5200 series tractors are ok... but parts can be hard to find for the hydraulic compensator and other controls now. Had to replace (i thought) the compensator on mine 2 years ago (4500hrs) and had a struggle to find one, and it wasn"t cheap. MX parts on the other had are the same as McCormick.

I"ve got 2 neighbours with 51/52 series tractors with over 10000hrs on them and almost untouched as far as repair work, mine has 5500hrs and has been apart more times than i care to mention... but i"ve yet to find anything else i like to replace it with...
