NH 275 baler ?

Is there a big difference between a NH 273 and a NH275 baler? I was told to look for a NH 273 or older for a Jubilee. Would a NH275 work for my Jubilee? I found a 275 not to far from me. Or is the 275 a bigger baler then the 273? It is a bit hard to tell form pictures.

I had a 275. Physically they are the same size as a 273. I don't remember anymore why they made both. The dealer told me at the time too. Seems like the one was a little more deluxe model than the other,but I don't remember which was which. I'm thinking my 275 had the Super Sweep pickup. Maybe that was the difference. It's been 28 years since I got rid of it,so my memory is foggy.

The 275 is a higher capacity baler and will handle more hay, bigger windrows, etc. Also I believe it is physically larger than the 273. My haying partner has a 275 which I have used when my Ford 250 broke down. He tends to make heavy windrows, and the 275 handled them all. But, I was baling with a JD A and sure knew the baler was behind me. I think the Jubilee will handle it OK providing you do not have any seriously hilly fields. But you might need to be quick on the clutch and getting the Jubilee out of gear if the windrow gets too heavy.

FWIW, the 275 was made from 1966-1971, the 273 was made from 1968-1977

I had both and the 273 is the one you want for a jubilee, the 275 is a bigger heavier baler and will push your tractor around unless you are only on flat ground

Thanks all for the info. Just my luck the one baler that is only about 60 miles away is to big All well I will keep looking.

I bought a new 273 in about 1975ish.Was good baler pulled it with a 400Case gas.My friend would borrow it and run it with a MF90 diesel.Had 16-20" windrow at about 4mph.A good day would be 1000 bales.Very few problems.

Well I have found a NH273 baler that looks like it is in good shape.
It is the nicest looking baler I have found for that price. Is there anything I should look for when I take a look at it? I will be along drive home if I get it. 236 mile one way

do you have a tractor dealer that you normally deal with that is close by, someone in the business that you have a relationship with? why don't you call them and tell them what you are looking for. You have a good while until you need a baler and over the winter/early spring guys are trading stuff off, talk to a salesman and tell them what your looking for. You might just find some treasure that the dealer would rather not have on their lot. That is how I found my 273, was buying something and told the dealer what I was looking for and I had the baler in a month or two, I gave $2000 for a 273 with no thrower, but its super sweep, and long tongue, its also about the nicest one you'll see, not shot and don't have to work on it. I later found a bale thrower for $40. That baler you are looking at would have to be dirt cheap for me to drive that far, its not a super sweep pickup and has the short hitch.
