NH 570 Bale length

I bought a fairly new New Holland 570 baler over the winter. It eats hay like crazy. My only problem is every once and a while it throws out a bale about a foot longer than the rest of the bales. I know a lot has to do wit windrow and ground speed just wondering if anyone else had this problem.

The serrated wheel that walks the trip arm up is slipping. File some new sharp points and grooves in it.

You can adjust the metering wheel supports to the rear of the baler to put more pressure on the trip arm. You can replace the metering wheel drive disc and trip arm if the serrations are worn off. There are two styles of trip arm and drive disc, the current style can be installed on later balers and is far mor aggressive and will drive the trip arm more positively.

I just did what RickB said changed to the serrated trip arm and wheel. Made a new baler out of it. As a temp fix last year I took the trip arm off and roughed up the edge the wheel rides on with a hacksaw blade. Just run the saw down the arm like you would a file.

I also have to make sure I get at least 14 strokes in per bale. Any where from 14 to 20 is good and 15-16 is the best.

The arm that the serrated wheel wore down on a baler I had to the point that it was not engaging the serrated wheel reliably. Cheap me, instead of buying a new arm I laid a few welding beads on the arm and ground it smooth. I think its still on the remains of the 77 baler.
