I broke a needle on mw 66 yesterday. It was in 3 pieces had about 20 bales left to finish .So I welded it with some nickel rod and crossed my fingers and it worked.I was wondering if I should get another one or keep my fingers crossed?

I have seen welded ones last for years if the baler never gets out of time again or does not pick up something in the chamber.

My NH271 has had 2 welded up needles on it for years and it is still working just fine. The big thing is to make sure the plunder safety stop is working as it should be. That is the first thing I check before going out to bale

If it's welded correctly it will last. If you've nver welded cast before it may not be what it should be... but probably will be OK. That said... it never hurts to have a spare needle or two sitting around if you have any amount of hay to bale. Some day you're not going to find the broken piece and then you're up the creek.

Rod

I broke one about 20 years ago and was not smart enough to realize what it was made of, just knew I needed it to finish baling. I hitched a ride up to the garage, welded it up with 6011 rod, put it back on the baler and used it for at least 10 more years. After the first 100 bales I completeely forgot about it, so I never found a spare or new one to swap back in it. Every now and then I get lucky, I guess that day was the one.
