Figured someone here would know...
There's a NH LX665 for sale near me with a hole in the block. Seller says it's a 1998 model with a 52 h.p. Ford 4-cylinder diesel. Sticker on the machine says it's a turbo.
Anyone know just what this engine is, and (about) what this machine's lifting capacity would be? Guessing it's actually a 192 c.i. 3-cyl. turbo, as I know some NH skid steers used the 201. Thanks.

LX665 has a 4 cylinder Shibaura turbo diesel. 844 engine, I believe, same displacement as a 1920 compact tractor which has no turbo.

ISM N844T. 1700# operating load but you can generally wrangle a ton plus on pallet forks if you use gravity to your advantage...

Thanks, Rod and Rick. Capacity would be OK, but it being a Shibaura engine makes it a lot less desirable as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't be the one buying it... I'd just have to do the repairs. I'll see what they say... asking price is $2500, as-is.

I'd say it's unusual for those engines to toss a rod. Makes me wonder how much fresh oil & filters the hydros ever got.
You want a SSL with a Ford engine, you need a large frame machine and a model number beginning either with an 8, 9, 18, or 19.

I'd wonder about the oil and filters too... and with no way to check functionality with the bad engine...
Thanks for including how to ID the models that have Ford engines. I think some of the older ones also ran Red Tiger industrials (7XX?)... but I'm not sure I'd want to go that old, or have a gas engine SSL.

I'd wager that the hydro is a bit more forgiving of filter changes than the engine in those loaders... as long as it wasn't constantly overheated.
A crate engine N844 can be found in the 5 grand range if you look around.

What I'd do... look at the rest of the loader and ascertain what kind of condition the boom is in. If that's still tight and the pins not worn badly... and the machine looks good... not rusted out badly (they do rust badly), electronics work... then it might be worth fixing. I mean... if it's a 12K machine save the fact it needs and engine, fix it. If it's a 7K machine in working order then it's more debatable if it should be fixed or not...
I've just gotten to the place where I can't seem to get too excited about the 'new' line of NH skid loaders... so a big part of me says the value of the old ones will go up a bit again. The Lx and LS models were very good loaders.
