NH499 mower trouble

I was mowing sat with this mower and it just stopped. I changed the filter and checked the fluid level I can hear a whine from the pto drive so I think it is working. The NH dealer is quite a ways away and my normal mechanic for these problems rudely deceided to pass away Could I have used the wrong oil I put in universal hy-tran oil?

Your problem could be a number of things. You need to start by making sure everything is free.

You should be able to take a bar, pipewrench, or cresant wrench and start turning shafts. If anything is locked up, like a siezed bearing or trouble with one wobble box, it can stop the whole machine in its tracks.

Just sounds to me like your problem is mechanical with the machine, more so than hydraulic. Hy-tran oil should be fine, and if the level is good, even if the pump were bad, it should do something.

If, when you turn on the pto, the machine seems to pull down but not move, like when you slug it, I"m betting you have a bearing out, or something along those lines. Hope this helps BW

Ok yesterday I tried to start the mower again. I turned on the pto and after 2 minutes the mower started turning It ran for about 5 minutes while I moved it to where I wanted to cut, then it slowed down and stopped. It hadn't been lowered to start cutting so there was no pressure on it. I'm going to hook up my old M to it to see if maybe the Belarus pto is acting up but I doubt it as it has new clutch plates 20 hrs ago. Thanks for your help.
