NH68 Baler

I've got a NH68 baler that has laid down on me. One of the springs up top behind the left knotter broke throwing it out of time. The end result was the trip arm that engages the knotter has been bent about two inches in, the shaft on the trip arm is bent, the plate the trip arm is mounted too is bent and both needles have been broken off. First major oops in a long time. It's such a good baler and would like to fix, but don't know how much it will cost. I'd like to find used parts, but not having no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions for locating parts in Western Kentucky? Also is it worth fixing?

It is going to cost you a fair bit to fix it. Last time I got some used needles for a baler they cost me $100 each and that was 10 years ago or more so hold tight to your back pocket. I would say at this point it might be better to find another good used NH baler and keep that one around for parts. I have a NH271 and have used a good number of parts off a parts 68 that I have

you would be better off replacing the 68 with something newer.repairs may cost more than the 'new'one.even if fixed it may never be right,something'hidden' may be bent.thats an old,small baler,time for an 'update'

If you decided to keep the baler/fix it up, why not take the needles to someone known to be a good welder. Have him braze the needles together. It should be as strong as the original. I'd say it ought to be cheaper than buying new ones (assuming they're $100 each).

I had to buy a used axle for my 68 last season (snapped in half pulling the baler out of the barn). Here are a couple of places I got quotes from:
