Nice old Ford

I stopped at the NH dealer in Pease, MN to pick up some seals I had ordered.
I always walk around their lot a bit when I'm there and saw this 5000 sitting there.
It has to be the cleanest old Ford I've ever seen. All the tin and fenders were just perfect. Somewhat faded paint but my impression was that it has never spent a night outside.
Very little oil at the usual seams and not grungy at all. The fuel tank is leaking - pretty bad actually - but that is very recent.
Sorry the sunlight was bad for better photos but I thought you guys might like them anyway.

I agree. Those grille inserts look perfect.

I'd be pricing that one. The rubber is good too even if they don't match. Probably the early 233 cubic inch.

The fuel shut off valve is probably leaking. A vey common problem on those. We used to spray them with Shur Wonder Whyte, tire cleaner, it would dissolve that dried sulpher stain. It still has the original style oil filter, Those were usually adapted soon after purchase. If I remember correctly, The very first of the series said Super Major 5000, and the power steering was an assist cylinder(possibly just on the UK models) that went to the left steering arm, I'm thinking that was one of the later of the early models. All of ours had the headlights in the grille, because they were UK imports, they also had a hand parking brake, and turn signals. If i remember correctly, we were able to sell them for about $1000, less than the "American" 5000. A lot of savings in the late 60s.

The steering cylinder on the early ones was under the nose of the tractor. I've never seen one with a steering cylinder on the side going to the spindle. That's how the early 3 cylinder 4000's were, but I'm pretty sure the 5000's had them under the nose.

The first ones we got from Great Britain had the externally mounted . At the time, PS was a little hard to get, so I don't know if my boss had it installed, or if it was just the early style. I think it was about a year until we started getting the newer style. I do know that we did adapt some that were meant for Majors. I'm sure Majorman would know.
