No. 31 Loader Cylinders leaking

OK, my H has a No. 31 loader, and both cylinders are leaking. Bad. Does anyone make a rebuild kit for these things? I do have a nearby hydraulic shop that can rebuild it 'em for me, but that'll be a about $200 each. And the cylinders are pretty simple, so I'm sure I can install a rebuild kit, check the condition of the tubes, piston, etc., and put 'em back together.

I wouldn't stake my future on there being a "kit" but for sure there are individual parts available to rebuild the cylinders.

Some people have this fantasy where the hydraulic shop will just "match up" the parts you need for free. If their hydraulic shop does that, bully for them. Around here time is money and if they spend an hour matching up parts they want to charge an hour of shop time and to my way of thinking that is perfectly fair.

Those are simple tierod style cylinders, and they come apart easy. The gland "seals" may be as simple as a couple of O-rings. It won't hurt to pull it apart and see.

I just had one of my cylinder's outer end sealed up by a hydraulic shop I have used before. Like he said there are no parts available for it but he said he knew the packing he could use to fix it. He fixed it up perfectly. Plus as he said he had to take the entire cylinder all apart to get the retainer out of the outer end so he could replace the packing there. It has not leaked a drop since he fixed it. I had to put new tubes on the loader cylinders when I bought the tractor and loader back in 1996. So a good hydraulic guy will be able to fix it up.

By the way it cost me $190 and was well worth it. Getting the metal retainer out at the end of the housing was the biggest problem for him (even though he had done them before) and presented a problem for me to figure out also. Also there are no kits available for the cylinder. My hydraulic guy had to piece all the seals and o-rings for it with individual parts.

Just out of HS I started working for a company that built hydraulic rams. We also had a few pneumatic rams and hydraulic/pneumatic rams. It was hydraulic for the high pressure side, with pneumatic used to retract the ram. There typically isn't hardly anything to rebuilding rams. Hardest part often times is having a spanner that matches the retainer. You should be able to easily disassemble your rams, pull the o-rins packing and rod scrapper off, mic them and order the parts you need to reassemble it properly. Google American west industries for their phone number. The should be able to send you all the parts you need as long as you can give them the exact sizes. They have a policy that if you don't have a business account with them they tack on a $25 service charge, but they often seem to wave it.

I have one like that it would leak a quart of oil every time it would lift I put motor stop leak in pump and that stopped the leak it takes a few bottles but it does work
