no 9 mower PTO shaft

The parts break-down of the #8&9 mowers on the JD
website shows a lot of options as far as length is
concerned, with several options for the tube and
yoke and the yoke on tractor. Suggest you look at
it.

If you are restoring it and want it to be "correct", that is one issue, if you just want to work it, that's another.

What does the "square" shaft measure, 1" X 1-1/8", or is it smaller?

A farm supply store probably will have the tube you need to fit the shaft, plus a yoke to weld it to, and shielding.

Getting the new shield half to match the half on the mower may be another issue.

Baum Hydraulics in Omaha has a wide selection of the driveline parts and shields.

It is a 6N series driveline.

the universal joint part number comes up as available but I can't find the yoke. the JD universal is half the price of Tractor Supply so I might not be saving any money not going to the dealer.

(quoted from post at 17:37:50 12/24/14) I believe it is either the 12 or 14 series. typically the 14 series were used if it had the conditioner drive on it.

this is what I was wondering, no conditioner drive, thanks.

historically correct restoration isn't important in this instance, just need to fix the broken universal joint and maybe find a yoke that stays on the PTO shaft. this is a working mower, I'll eventually get around to restoring or selling it.
