No Choke MF65

My fresh built (30hr) 65 no longer needs choked to start. I still reach for it, but all I do is load it up. I recently switched to a Pertronix coil and electronic ignition. Is this the cause? Can I lean it out to take more benefit from this?

Thanks

Aaron

We have tractors with Continental engines for years. In warm climate healty Continental engines in MF tractors does not need choke to start. In winter just pulling the choke knob for one second when starting will suffice once started it may need a couple of 1 sec knob pulling to keep it running few first minutes.

My 2 cents

Aaron;

Are you able to start the engine without the
choke and then use the choke some to keep it running untill it is warmed up a little. I had two tractors like that. I had changed them to 12 volt and the engines had been rebuilt.

I dont think you need to lean it out.

It seems that engine is not to particular on air fuel mixtures to fire.
Some engines need less air when it"s cold {Cold air is dense} to fire.

Aaron,

If you play with the mixture watch your temp. gauge. After the last overhaul on my 65, I hooked up the plow and put her to work. I was playing with everything including the mixture screw. I leaned it out about a quarter turn and the engine temp. went up. Richened it back up until the temp. came back down to where it had always been for the previous 35 or so years. May not work if you're just putzin around, but if you have a load on it, the engine temp. seems to tell you when you have a lean condition.

My 65 has the original ignition system and it has never needed much if any choking. On the coldest days that we have, I just make sure the throttle is all the way closed and she will start-no choke.
