No last word

While I appreciate any and all help folks get and give on this site, I find it to be as tedious and inconsiderate as all get-out that one guy on here invariably wants to end his responses either via email or telephone. Most of us read this forum to see solutions to problems, not just the problems and the post going dark. Thank you guys that have the courtesy to respond on the forum where we all get the benefit. gm

And I'd appreciate a quick last post by the poster to say if the problem was fixed in the end. LG(life's good)

Maybe he figures he can be more helpful in person - he has called me and talked me through problems, and is a great resource. He is very knowledgeable, and is more than willing to help - can't imagine complaining about that...

I think its usually because the response would be long and tedious to post, and a lot more can get done faster with a telephone conversation. He's willing to help- let him do it on his terms, and don't knock it.

I have wondered if he isn't buying for advice and selling for a price email address's...he wants them bad enough... He is from a part of Ohio were the farmers drink blood...lol

IT'S A JOKE

Met a guy like him yesterday...very interesting guy who stopped by to see my wood fired gasification boiler. An engineer/inventor who rode about 30 miles on his motorized bike he built...goes 25mph and gets 200mpg. Claims he has one that gets 1700mpg. He was a pilot/still is at almost 80.

Guys like that are just like guys like that...always better off knowing them and one of them comes here.

Well he's helped me a several times with his expert advice and as far as I'm concerned anyone giving free advice can give it any way they want.I can say I've never directly asked anyone
for help here that they didn't try to help me out. Can't beat that.

While we have Oliver's we farm with I haven't really had the need yet to ask a bunch of question on this forum. Seems the person in question is very knowledgeable on many subjects. I know when I try to explain something specific to someone it's just easier to talk rather than post messages that could end up being very long. I don't think he's hiding anything and he s an asset to the forum. If you need something just ask him, I am sure he will be more than happy to help.

He has helped me as well,

Although I will agree it is disappointing when you read a post and it ends with send me an email, I think the responsibility of how the issue was resolved should lie on the one that originates the post.

AGREED! Well put

Hello, in my day job I work solving problems like this. While I generally prefer texting, a phone call can transmit many more details than texting. And throw in a need for following a flow chart one question at a time answered maybe hours or days apart, I wouldn't do it either. Many, many times I ask questions searching for subtle difference in answers, "is it this, or is it not more like that". This would be painfully slow in this format. Also when doing tedious troubleshooting it sucks to be asked a question, wait, then another detail, wait. Nothing is more frustrating having an operator describing a problem, and lunch bell sounds, and they break off mid sentence. You lose all train of thought. Ease up, the service is free.

He's helped me too JW but it still stinks to get
interested in a problem and it's solution just to have
the lights go out in the middle. I get that it's easier to
talk on the phone but it really defeats the whole
purpose of the board as far as I see it. gm

I'll agree that is seems annoying sometimes, but if that's his way of communicating .. then that's his way. Some people prefer conversation to pass along the details better. How many guys like him are still around on this forum who actually worked on Olivers as professional mechanics in the 1960's? Knowing that is how he operates what if the person who asked the question just follows up with the advice that he was given?

I agree completely. While he does have good information, and others say he will call them, when he asked for my number to call me on several occasions I'm still waiting on that call. I must not be "special enough" for him. It's nice to know when you try to help someone if it fixed it or not and what they did so all you have to do is search instead of typing another post asking the same questions time and time again.

This thread is getting old and is disrespectful. J is very knowledgeable and would gladly help you if he can. Now can we remove this thread and get on with it!
