What all is involved to convert a non pto equipped Massey 40 industrial hydrostatic drive? Does it need a complete rear end swap or just the pto shaft alone?
 
It is essentially the addition of the PTO shaft, the rear bearing/ bushing/ oil seal assembly, a PTO engagement slider and the engagement lever assembly which is bolted to the left side of the center section.

Also a PTO shaft bushing needs to be installed inside the center section inplace of a support pin which supports the rear side of the hydraulic pump shaft.

It's been a while and maybe someone else might confirm this,but I think since you have an instant-reverse transmission you would also require an overrunning clutch when running in reverse.
 
uhm, no three point? so maybe no internal hydraulics? That's an interesting one. That would possibly mean some additional internal components, I'm not sure, maybe another might chime in?

Does this MF 40 have a front loader? maybe dedicated front loader/backhoe machine?I have seen this configuration (no PTO and three point) but not sure if the internal pump was still included.
 
No loader, I do have a 204 with complete rear end which has all the needed things you mention. Would that work? The 204 has the gas with cracks upper and lower around the sleeves.
 
Seems like it might work, I never tried that combination. I put together an early 202 center section together with a late model 202. Worked out very smoothly no problems at all.

I think I remember that the bolt pattern across several models were the same.
 
Got a 205 industrial with the Reverse-O-Matic transmission and PTO but no 3PH. You will need an over running clutch because when you are in reverse so is the PTO. Pretty much a useless tractor without a front end loader. IMO
 
I'm in Ga. I agree about the worthlessness with no loader, no pump an no 3 point, so a tug. Only positive is a diesel with ps.
