No power out coil

'51 8N 6V side mount - Was running great until trying to start it last week and it wouldn't start. I have 6V into the coil but am getting no spark out of it with testing it by pulling lead off of distributor and holding near manifold while cranking. The coil is roughly a year old only and I know that the round can coil is a fairly stout coil and so that is why I really hesitate to think that is my problem. Key was not left on for any period of time and I jumped the ignition switch also and I just can't get a spark. What do you think? Is there a way for me to specifically test the coil alone?

It's not a fuel problem. I have gasoline smell on plugs (plus a nice constant steady stream from bottom of carb). Pulled the plugs and torched 'em too, to make sure that they were dry before trying again. And they are the Autolites.

Points and or condenser.

I checked continuities and points are fine. No grounding etc. How do you check condenser? Maybe this is a dumb question but even if condenser is not good wouldn't I still have power out of the coil? I guess I thought that the condenser was downhill, so to speak, from the coil. But then again, I'm not that great with electrical things.

if the points are not shorted.. then the condensor is not shorted, and the feedthru bushing is not shorted. if the points are not burned, condensor is not open.

make sure gap is correct and opens and closes ont he revs, and you have good power at the primary of the coil

Gap is good (0.025) but what is "at the primary of the coil". I do have 6 volts going into the coil, is that what you mean?

4th owner.......what do you think "at the primary of the coil means"??? Would you believe its 6-volts going into the coil???....DUH!!!!

My guess, yer ignition points have INVISIBLE corrosion and will STOP yer sparkies. ittza $1 fix (cheap) Clamp a $1 bill between the points and pull and polish the INVISIBLE corrosion off. Iff'n yer really cheap, tear a strip from heavy brown paper grocery sack and clamp and pull. Simple, eh? ......Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
