Noisy starter

My 1969 Ford 2000 (Gas) makes a noise (like grinding corn) when I try to start it. After it starts the noise disappears. I have dissambled, cleaned and reassembeled the starter and found nothing wrong. Anybody ever had this problem?

Sounds to me like the starter drive needs replaced. If its not a bushing or bearing problem.I only have torn apart and fixed a few but that is what I found mostly.

Check to see if the nose cone is cracked, it"ll make a hell of a growl if it is, only has to be cracked just a little bit.
